We know that 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses are associated with Marriage. 2nd house signifies Family, 4th signifies peace in home, 5th house progeny, 7th house spouse, 8th house longevity of spouse and 12th house sexual pleasure.

Reassons for Delay in Marriage, Late Marriage and Marriage problems

If any of these houses are afflicted by placement of Malefic Planets such as Saturn, Mars, Sun or Rahu/Ketu or conjunction of inimical Planets such as Sun & Venus, Sun & Saturn, then it forms Marriage Dosha.

Effect of Marriage Dosha

Marriage dosha in a horoscope can cause delay in marriage, delay in child birth, trouble in married life, separation, divorce, 2nd marriage and death of spouse.

Marriage Doshan can be broadly classfied as Kalathra Dosha and Manglik Dosha. These two are the main doshas that cause most problems in marriage. Let us discuss them in details, one by one.

Kalathra Dosha : A horoscope is said to have Kalathra Dosha when

1. Venus or Venus and Mars in conjunction are placed in 7th house
2. Malefics such as Mars, Saturn, Sun, Rahu/Ketu are placed in 7th house
3. Badhakathipathi and/or Marakathipathi are placed in 7th house
4. 7th house Lord is combust or debilitated or placed in 6th, 8th or 12th house
5. 7th house Lord is associated with 6th, 8th or 12th house Lord
6. 6th house Lord and /or 8th house Lord are placed in 7th house
7. 2nd house Lord is placed in 6th, 8th or 12th house in conjunction with Malefics
8. Retrograde planet is posited in 2nd house or aspects 2nd house Lord
9. Sun, Saturn, Mars, Rahu/Ketu are placed in 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house
10. 2nd and 7th house Lords in conjunction with Venus are placed in evil houses
11. Sun and Venus in conjunction are placed in 2nd, 5th, 7th or 9th house
12. Venus or 7th house Lord is placed in Virgo Sign
13. Moon is placed either Capricorn or Aquarius, or Saturn is placed in Cancer
14. Moon and Saturn are in conjunction or aspect mutually
15. Mars and Saturn are in conjunction or aspect mutually
16. Malefics are placed on either side of 7th house or its Lord or Venus

Naga or Sarpa Dosha - If Rahu or Ketu is placed in 7th house, then it forms Naga or Sarpa Dosha. We know that Rahu causes hurdles and Ketu causes detachment. Hence, if Ketu is placed in 7th house, it will cause detachment with Marriage or Married life. On the other hand, if Rahu is placed in 7th house, then it will cause hurdles in marriage and / or problems in married life. Placement of Rahu in 7th house is one of the indicators of "Intercaste Marriage" as well as "Extra marital relationship". However, horoscope must be examined holistically to find out intercaste marriage or Extra marital relationship.

Note - Sarpa Dosha is different from Kalasarpa Dosha. Placement of Rahu/Ketu in 7th house forms Sarpa Dosha. Confinement of all planets with Rahu/Ketu forms Kala Sarpa Dosha. The effect of Naga or Sarpa Dosha is different from that of Kala Sarpa Dosha.

While examining Kalathra Dosha, all the houses should be considered not only from Ascendant, but also from Venus and Moon because all the three planets play an important role in marriage.

1) The 2nd and 7th house Lord Venus, who is also natural Kalathrakaraka (responsible for marriage), is debilitated and placed in the 6th house as well

2) Sun, Mercury and Mars aspect 2nd house. Sun is Malefic. Mercury is the 3rd and 6th house Lord which is functionally Malefic. Mars is the 8th house Lord and Malefic. With stressed aspect of multiple Malefics, the 2nd house is completely afflicted

3) "Karako Bhava Nasthi". Jupiter is placed in 5th house which represents Progeny and Jupiter is responsible for offspring. So, placement of Jupiter in 5th house afflicts the 5th house

4) The 4th house Lord Moon is in conjunct with Ketu, Moon gets the aspect of Mars and 4th house gets the aspect of Saturn

5) 12th house gets the aspect of Saturn and debilitated Venus which afflicts 12th house

6) 7th house from Moon (Sagittarius) is afflicted with the placement of Rahu and 7th house from Venus (Pisces) is also afflicted as Saturn and debilitated Venus aspects

With 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 12th house from Ascendant, and also 7th house from Moon and Venus afflicted, the native is not married until Dec'19. The Betrothal function was crashed around 2017. The native lives in a small village where most of the people get married between the age of 21 to 23 and the native age is 28 as of Dec'19.

Certain houses are exempted from Manglik Dosha.

1. Aries and Scorpio because Mars rules these houses
2. Sagittarius and Pisces because Mars gets transformed into benefic in Jupiter's house
3. Cancer and Leo because Mars is Yogakaraka Planet for Cancer and Leo
4. Capricorn and Aquarius because Saturn being Malefic and inimical to Mars, it will fight back the evil effect of Mars

But, there are different school of thoughts on the exemption. Some says only point 1 and 2 above are exempted, some says all the four points are valid.

Manglik dosha is said to be strong if Mars is placed in Taurus or Gemini or Virgo or Libra and Mars is 2nd, 4th, 7th or 8th house to Ascendant.

Manglik dosha can temporarily separate the couple or lead to divorce during the Dasha/Bhukthi period of Mars and when the aspect of Transit Saturn falls on Mars.

The Manglik Dosha, formed by placement of Mars in 8th house, can cause sudden death of spouse because 8th house signifies life of spouse.
